Poly(carbon monofluoride)----(CFx)n

Carbon monofluoride, often referred to as carbon fluoride, polycarbon monofluoride, CFx or graphite fluoride is a solid, structural, non-stoichiometric fluorocarbon of empirical formula (CFx)n where 0 < x < 1.25. Graphitized petroleum coke is a main source of raw carbon and the reaction is greatly dependent on the graphitization temperature and degree of graphitization. The reaction temperature depends upon type of raw material, reactor design, and use application and desired degree of fluorination.
(For Li/CFx battery)
Li/CFx primary battery systems have achieved broad acceptance in a number of expanding high performance military, consumer and industrial applications. Lithum/carbon monofluoride (Li-CFx) batteries are a solid-cathode type which optimizes reliability, safety, cost and performance.
Features of Li/CFx batteries
Outstanding shelf life and excellent performance over a wide temperature range; Stable discharge voltage;
High energy density and voltage (3V);
Enhanced safety by the use of carbon-monofluoride electrode material and a non- corrosive, non-toxic electrolyte;
Excellent leak resistance;
Shelf life of ten years or more;
Pre-tinned nickel terminals are solderable;
Available with other wave-solderable terminal configurations.
Applications
The following devices are examples of good uses for Lifex cells:
Computer Memory and Real Time Clock Backup
Electronic Counters, Process Controllers
Portable Instruments
Time/Data Protection
Industrial Controls
Electronic Gas, Water and Electric Meters
Communication Equipment
Watches
Protection of Control Parameter Memory
Portable Electronic Devices
Application Considerations
Lifex coin cells and batteries should be considered for applications that are characterized by a need for:
Miniaturization Leakage resistance Light weight Shock and vibration tolerance Low to moderate current drains Environments requiring extended operation or storage at a wide range of temperatures The need for flat discharge voltage and consistent source impedance Long shelf life An extended service life due to low self-discharge rate Enhanced safety and reduced product liability concerns
(For Lubricate)
CarFlour also supplies CFx product for non-battery applications with lubrication additives being the major growth area. Other applications include additives in dry inks, additives in elastomeric seals, oxidation resistant catalyst supports and chromatographic column packing. Currently six commercial grades of CFx are available using carbon black, petrocokes or graphites. Research size samples of custom fluorinated carbons are easily produced for specific applications/trials.
As a solid lubricate, CFx possesses excellent lubricant capability better than graphite or MoS2. CFx is fluorinated graphite, and introduction of fluorine makes intermolecular forces between carbon layers more weak so that CFx exhibits better lubricating capability than graphite, especially under high temperature, high-speed and over-loaded conditions.
